Understanding the difference between the 2 methodologies to obtain the mandatory NQF4 REAL ESTATE qualification

Recognition of Prior Learning

Therefore the methodology assumes that you have experience and knowledge in your field- hence no training is provided by the provider.

There will usually be a short information session followed with a schedule of dates and a limited time period in which you have to hand in a portfolio to be assessed.

If you have no previous experience in real estate or formal learning related to real estate the training provider should not accept you on this programme. The training provider will compile a diagnostic assessment for eligibility for the RPL methodology.

This method also requires dedication, commitment and the ability to work on your own in your own time with hardly any form of assistance.

Hence because there are no facilitators, contact session, formal training sessions – this methodology is a cheaper method for the training provider.

Training via contact sessions

This method provides an opportunity for you to improve your learning and expertise, have it assessed and formally acknowledged.

Therefore the methodology assumes that you have little experience and knowledge in your field- hence training is provided by the provider.

There will usually be a series of contact sessions followed with a schedule of dates and a longer time period in which you have to hand in a portfolio to be assessed.

If you have no previous experience in real estate or formal learning related to real estate the training provider should encourage you to follow this methodology.

This method also requires dedication, commitment and the ability to work on your own in your own time but with assistance/support and extensive theoretical training.

Hence because there are facilitators, contact sessions, formal training sessions – this methodology is a more expensive method for the training provider. People who find it difficult to work on their own prefer the classroom methodology.

It is the most viable option for an inexperienced intern who is not subjected to extensive in house training from their company.

Faster/Cheaper is not necessarily always the best option for YOU
