The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process through which formal, non-formal and informal learning are measured, mediated for recognition across different contexts and certified against the requirements for credit, access, inclusion or advancement in the formal education and training system or workplace [SAQA]
In a nutshell – if you can prove your expertise in the property industry, can provide evidence that you have been sufficiently trained and are knowledgeable on all aspects of real estate, you can apply for the completion of the qualification via this method.
The training provider will perform checks to ascertain whether you are eligible for the programme.

There is one booklet with a number of tasks which will ensure that all the evidence you need to show is collected and collated. This option is also less expensive than the full courses, but you will rely heavily on your real estate work experience as evidence with this option.

The benchmark rule is very simple:
Every agent/ principal who held an FFC prior to 15 July 2008 can be channeled via the RPL process. In short this includes agents in all the following sectors within the real estate industry:
- Residential sales agents
- Commercial and/or industrial agents
- Business brokers
- Rental agents (residential & holiday letting)
- Managing agents
- Property admin agents
- Time share consultants
- Auctioneers of immovable property
- Farm sale brokers
